From the date of inception, it has taken up the motive to develop the entrepreneurial skills among the students. To make the Cell more effective and thoroughly functional, several ideologies were considered. The first step towards actualising them was to use the new nomenclature ‘Young Women Entrepreneurship Development Centre’ (YWED Centre) from the academic year 2016-17.
The YWED Centre is established to identify and inspire the aspiring students to become entrepreneurs. Inculcating entrepreneurial instinct in the young generation is making them dream to go extra miles in their life. To start the journey of an entrepreneurship, the YWED Centre provides training to develop entrepreneurial skills as well as the technical skills through installation of equipments required for baking, tailoring, vermicompost and mushroom cultivation etc. in the campus. Skills for startup, to create self-employment opportunities, skills to survive in the business scenario, and to provide job opportunities to the others are the mile stones for a budding entrepreneur.
YWED certificate courses are being conducted during every summer vacation. It is mandatory for all the students to complete at least one long-term course (Either one Skill Enhancement Course or YWED Course or NPTEL course or one Certificate Course offered by the departments) or two short-term courses (Skill Enhancement Courses) for each academic year. 14 YWED certificate courses are offered during the summer vacation to motivate the students towards entrepreneurship and to instill the required skills to launch small-scale businesses. The duration of the course is 6 full days. The courses are designed for 30 hours – 2 hours theory and 28 hours practical.
