Swachh Bharat Mission:

Hygiene and hygienic practices in life are life-threatening for health not only to progress a living atmosphere but also to uplift our thinking to a clean and healthy state. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,the most significant cleanliness campaign by the Government of India is a great start to make India cleaner and greener. It was launched on 02.10.2014 across the country as a national movement. Swachhta has been acknowledged and bestowedhighestsignificance by the government of India. A clean or Swachh mind is produced from a Swachh environment. Teachers and students of the education system need to play the lead role in making the masses aware of the quintessential need for hygiene. The Department of Higher Education resolved to get on the mission through the usualfunctioningpractice on Swachhta for its Institutions setting forth practices that must be implemented at all higher educational institutions.

Swachhata Ranking:

The Swachhata Rankings exercise has been initiated by the Department of Higher Education to produce healthy peer pressure among higher educational institutions for keeping and upholding hygienic campuses so that the environment for student learning becomes clean and leads to higher thinking. The The Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College for Women, Sivakasi has been actively participating in the Swachhta Ranking from 2017 onwards.

Swachhta Pakhwada:

SwachhtaPakhwada was started in April 2016 with the objective of bringing a fortnight of intense focus on the issues and practices of Swachhta. The main objective of the programme was to create awareness about plastic wastes, its impacts and cleanliness in and around the campus. Swachhta Pakhwada serves in connecting people to the nature and enhancing those actions that make our environment a better place.

Swachhata in The Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College for Women, Sivakasi is a continuous process of commitment and improvement of both campus and villages. The college is playing an internal and social role in hygiene that is tangible and can be seen. Along with education, the college follows the parameters of the campus hygiene laid out in the material so that the minds of the students blossom in a clean and pure campus atmosphere. 

Some of the major activities undertaken during Swachhta Pakhwada on and offthe Campus from 2017 till date are: - 

  • Used Various innovative ways for the promotion of Swachhata message through posters, banners, hoardings, pamphlets etc.
  • Undertaken Tree plantation drive by the students 
  • Cleaned the Government Hospital at Thiruthangal
  • Observed Clean surroundings Day by creating awareness on the virtues of sanitation and cleanliness among the public on the college campus an on the Velayutham Rastha.
  • Incorporated Swachhta and sustainability facets at relevant places in the college premises. Eg. 'Plastic-free Zone’ through charts, display boards and paintings
  • Raised campus awareness Programmes about the need for cleanliness
  • Organized speech on cleanliness and hygiene to the students and villagers
  • Created the system of maintaining cleanliness 24/7/365 and inculcated this spirit in the communities and individuals.
  • Designed curriculum on Environmental Hygiene, Sanitation and Waste Management to widen the scope of job opportunities for the students.

Visited to the nearby village (Manahaseri)

  • Created an awareness on cleanliness to the school students and villagers
  • Explained the importance of health
  • Drew wall paintings to inculcate the importance of cleanliness 
  • Displayed Slogans on the walls of the schools and on the streets

Organized Clean Mess Day

  • Cleaned the floor of the Mess hall
  • Removed the cobwebs on the ceilings and walls
  • Washed the windows glasses and panels and doors
  • Taught the cooks how to segregate the wastes 
  • Created an awareness on the virtues of sanitation and cleanliness

Organized Green Campus Day

  • Organized Tree Plantation Programme- planted 50 saplings on the college premises to make the environment green
  • Maintaining more than 1000 trees and nearly 160 potted plants
  • Created Green lawn on the sides of the foot paths

Conducted Cleanest Hostel Room Competition

  • Given prizes for the winners (Priyadharshini (UG) Hostel, New Hostel, PG Hostel
