Types of flower arrangement
Western:
The west had free flowing flexible arrangements from the beginning. These are designs.
Modern:
Is based on Japanese line arrangement. A few flowers of individual branches are employed.
Line arrangement:
The line arrangement is worked out in these ways. Bowls and trays with flowers whose stems are short. The largest, highest and most attractive flower can be allowed to float in the centre, with the others groups around. The flowers should not completely cover up the water. Different colours of flower may be used.
Japanese Flower Arrangement:
Practically all styles of Japanese arrangement are based on three principles. Heaven, man and earth.
The highest spray symbolizes heaven and it is arranged as central axis in the vase. The length is usually measured from 1 and 1 ½ - 2 and 1 ½ times the height of a tall container. The second height represents man it gives the greatest width to the arrangement. And is about ¾ the height of the tallest spray. The lowest spray denotes earth, and the spray is about ½ as tall as the one signifying man and it extends very little beyond the diameter of the vase. It is placed opposite to the branch signifying man and thus balances it.
Tall as well as low vases can be used in this type mostly they are made from bamboo, bronze or pottery. These arrangements always appear simple and never overcrowded.
Mass arrangement :
Large amount of flowers are required in this kind of arrangement. Grouping of flowers of their colors play on important role while arranging flowers in a vase. The mass arrange may be compact, semi-compact or an airy one. This type of arrangement is used in huge palacial rooms or in bog formal parties. It may be in the form of a sphere, cone, pyramid or cylinder.
